Perhaps that language of idolatry seems very strong, but the very concept of a \virtual church\ is itself a self-defeating construct. The church is supposed to be a gathered community -- a community that meets physically and not simply in idea or imagination. To make religion and its spiritual practices or disciplines into a virtual practice is to buy into the modern and post-modern obsession with voyeurism. Here one sees the transformation of liturgy (the work of the church, or the people) into lethargy. At least, that is my humble opinion. This is idolatry as far as I am concerned.
